ORDER OF PLAY (TENTATIVE)
Thursday: Singles events if required (for players living in, or in the vicinity of Winnipeg)
Friday: Singles events
Saturday: Singles (if needed), followed by Doubles, followed by Mixed Doubles
Saturday evening: Semi finals (6pm for A&B divisions only)
Sunday: Finals (ABCD divisions)

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Thursday, January 9th at 11:59pm CST

Manual registrations subject to a $10.50 administrative fee.
Late registrations are not guaranteed to be accepted and if accepted, will be subject to a $10.50 late fee. Individuals registered past the deadline may not be included in seeding.

Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Ladies’ Doubles, Mixed Doubles
Format: ABCD format

PRIZES
Prizes awarded winners and runners-up in ABCD divisions

ELIGIBILITY
Participants must have an active current 2024-2025 season Base, Provincial, or National membership.
The competition will be conducted under the official rules of Badminton Canada.

FEES
1 event: $70.00 + GST = $73.50
2 & 3 events: additional $10.00 + GST = $10.50

Entry fees are payable on-line at the time of registration.

T-shirts will be given out to all competitors. Please select size on entry form.

Lunch will be available for all competitors on Saturday January 18th

OUT OF TOWN ENTRIES
Participants registering from out of town. Please make a note during your registration

AVAILABILITY
Players must make themselves available for the entirety of the event. Due to the unpredictability of speed of play, athletes are expected to be ready well ahead of their scheduled match time.
The tournament will enforce a 10-minute disqualification rule and a 2-minute warm-up rule.
Reasonable requests for late starts or timing accommodations are not guaranteed to be accepted and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

REFUND POLICY
Badminton Manitoba does not permit refunds of MBA Memberships.
Badminton Manitoba does not permit refunds of tournament registration fees unless requests are accompanied by a medical note or immediate family crisis. This does not apply to partial fee refunds if an athlete paid for 2-3 categories and was unable to secure a partner (thus only competing in 1 event).

TERMS & CONDITIONS
In consideration of the acceptance of this entry in the name of the 2025 ASDEL Open, I, for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, waive any claims to which I may become entitled for injury or damage, and release the MBA and all other organizers, sponsors, representatives, their agents and employees and any other person or organization assisting in this event from any claims for damages or injury suffered by me as a result of my participation in, or traveling to, or from, this event, notwithstanding that any such loss, injury or damage may have arisen by reason of the negligence of anyone or more of the aforesaid parties, their servants, agents or employees. I further state that I am in proper physical condition to participate in this program and am aware that participation could, in some circumstances, result in physical injury. I also give my permission for the free use of my name and picture in broadcast, telecast, or written account of this program.

2024 MBA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Please note the following upcoming events.

Town Hall Online Session for update to By-Laws – this meeting will be facilitated by the Sport Law Group as they review changes to the MBA By-Laws.
This session is an opportunity for members to learn about the changes, ask questions and request any potential further edits to the document.
The new By-Laws will be voted on at the upcoming AGM on November 20th.

AGM UPDATE

This meeting was postponed due to lack of quorum.

A new Special General Meeting will be held on November 20 to accept the new By-Laws.

The AGM will be added to this meeting.
Members need to have current MBA memberships to participate in the vote.

Note: the By-Law updates are mandatory.

The MBA is working with the Sport Law Group to finalize the new By-Laws.

This allows for community feedback and potential updates to the draft prior to the November 20th meeting vote.

The AGM will have the usual updates as well as the presentation of our new Strategic Plan.

NOTE: The MBA is working with the Sport Law Group to update our by-laws.

This is a mandatory requirement for our funding from Sport Manitoba to bring the by-laws inline with current formats.

A town hall style online meeting will be held in October to present the new by-laws to our members and allow for questions and input in advance of a SGM. (Special General Meeting)

The goal is to allow members to hear from and ask questions of Steven Indig from the Sport Law Group so that when we get to the SGM in November it will be a simple vote to accept the new by-laws.

Team Manitoba Coaches Wanted

Badminton Manitoba is looking for qualified coaches to help with our Provincial Teams.

Successful candidates will have an opportunity to assist in the development of our
provincial team athletes at the direction of our provincial coach.

Position Summary
 Able to conduct training sessions with junior athletes.
 Willing to be able to coach at events if the provincial coach is unable to attend.
 Good communication skills.

Qualifications
 Must have a minimum regional coach certification.
 Must have a current criminal background check
 Must have a current respect in sport certificate.

Coaches will receive honorariums based on the current Coach Compensation Scale

2024-25 Team Manitoba Try Outs

Badminton Manitoba is excited to extend an invitation to all Manitoba athletes.
To try out for the provincial A & B team. This is in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Manitoba Winter Games & 2027 Canada Winter Games.
Players must be eligible for the U23 category as of December 31st, 2026 (year of birth: 2004 or later)

Saturday September 7^th 1-3pm at the Winnipeg Winter Club (200 River Road)

The MBA is working with Mosaic Engagement to create a new 4-year Strategic Plan for the organization.
We recently held some online sessions with community members, our board and staff.

Shuttle Time Coaching Course

The Manitoba Badminton Association is hosting a Shuttle Time Coaching Certification Course on July 2nd.
This will take place at Prairie Badminton (275 De Baets St, Unit 2).
Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm

The course is 6 hours (including on court time) and the fee is $50+GST = $52.50.

Junior Regional Challenge Update

The MBA is hosting the 2024 Yonex Junior Regional Challenge.

This event will take place from May 31st to June 2nd.

Thanks to the support of the Arts, Culture and Sport in Community Fund (ACSC) we are pleased to provide a subsidzed event for athletes in our province.

UPDATE May 18th: The issue with PayPal has been fixed so you can pay online now.

Player fees – $55.00+GST = $57.75 (this includes 1 to 3 events)

Location: Prairie Badminton (275 De Baets)

Registration – this will be a two step process.
1) Players will register online – HERE
2) The issue with PayPal has been fixed players can now complete payment during registration as usual.

Registration Deadline – Thursday May 23rd, 11:59pm

Events – Boys, Girls and Mixed for U13, U15, U17 & U19

Fees cover tournament entry, player gift, referees, prizes and medals, Saturday lunch and other food at the venue.

Regional Subsidies – players/teams are eligible for subsidized funding through this event. Players outside of Winnipeg can contact Corey to request funding support.

This is to help offset travel and accomodation costs. The amount supported will depend on the number of requests we receive for your region and will be determined after registration closes.

The event will take place at Prairie Badminton from Friday April 26 to Sunday April 28th.

The event includes a meal on Saturday at the venue as well as the Players Awards Banquet on the Sunday.

Norman Open Shuttle Option

Norman Open Shuttle Service from Winnipeg

The Norman Open is returning after a hiatus and we are looking to help support the event by making the trip more affodable. Thanks to funds from the Arts, Culture and Sport in Community Fund (Growing the Game) the MBA is looking to charter a bus to transport athletes from Winnipeg to the Norman Open in Thiompson. The tournament is running March 2 & 3rd and hosted by the Thompson Badminton Club. To ensure that we have sufficient demand for this we ask interested players to fill out the following form (click to the left) to express interest in attending the event. A small transportation fee will be collected per person but the majority of the expense will be covered. The MBA will reserve the right to cancel the shuttle if we don’t have sufficient interest for the trip.
