2018 FOBM Grant Recipients

The first recipients of the Friends of Badminton Manitoba have been announced.

The recipients are:

 

Student/Athlete Scholarship: Rylan Ramnarace & Arnish Patel ($500 each)

The Student/Athlete Scholarships were awarded based on several areas. The areas looked at were financial need, academic performance, their tournament results for the past year and their expected tournament schedule for the upcoming season, and their involvement in the local badminton community. Both Rylan and Arnish maintained a very high academic average over the last year as well as competing in many tournaments. Arnish played at bothe the Yonex Senior Prairie Elite, Canadian Nationals, and the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships as well as several provincial tournaments. Rylan played in the Yonex Prairie Senior Elite, The Alberta Senior Elite and the U23 & Junior Nationals (where he won a bronze medal in doubles) as well as several of our provincial tournaments. They did all of these tournaments while attending University full time with a high GPA. They both help to coach one or more MBA program during the winter. Congratulations to Arnish and Rylan.

 

 

Coach Development Grant: Mano Navarro ($500)

The coach development grant was awarded to Mano Navarro who along with coaching at the MBA's DWP program, runs and coaches at the 17 Wing Badminton Club. He also took on the role of coach  for Team Winnipeg Gold at the 2018 Manitoba Winter Games helping his team win a Gold Medal in the U17 team competition as well as numerous individual medals. Mano works very hard at coaching and does a fantastic job for his students. Mano will be using the funds from this grant to help in his path towards his Level 2 Certification.

 

 

Club Initiative Grant - 17 Wing and Lac du Bonnet ($270 and up to $300, respectively)

The Club Initiative Grant was given to 17 Wing Badminton Club and to the Lac du Bonnet Club for adding better equipment to their gyms in order to allow their members a better experience when playing badminton. Both clubs wish to give their members a better place to play and good equipment is a great way to help do that.

The fund still accepts donations and we hope to make it grow in the next few years so more grants can be awarded.
